Introduction

Enjoy not one, but two luxurious Finnish saunas.

The sauna is an oasis for busy modern people. At Sen, we have provided not one, but two Finnish saunas. Both are designed so you can regulate the temperature of the steam by splashing water on the hot stones, or what the Finns call löyly. The outdoor sauna, which overlooks a forest on a river terrace, can hold up to six people. Since you wear a swimsuit when you enter, you can enjoy the sauna as a family or in a mixed group of men and women.

The other sauna, located inside Sen, can accommodate two people. Despite its small size, it is paneled entirely with hinoki (Japanese cypress). The height of the seats has been raised so that you can feel the heat more immediately. Both of the cold water baths are fed by naturally flowing groundwater that is around 16 degrees Celsius. (Tap water may be used depending on the groundwater flow.) Feel free to decrease the flow rate in winter so you can enjoy a solo cold water bath.

Hinoki sauna

The Hinoki Sauna, which is paneled entirely in Japanese cypress (hinoki), is a compact two-person sauna located next to the indoor bath. Relax in the low lighting and enjoy the sound of water sizzling on the sauna rocks and the aroma of the cypress. The exquisite cold water bath is made from a hollowed out boulder. It is fed with naturally flowing groundwater that stays at around 16 degrees Celsius all year round. The Hinoki Sauna is completely private, so you are welcome to enjoy it in the nude.

  • Capacity two-person
  • Temperature 110℃
  • Löyly Self-löyly
  • Cold water bath Approx. 16℃ (Reduce the water volume in winter to enjoy a solo bath)
  • Relaxation space Flat chairs x 3 (Only one in winter)

We built another sauna outside about 30 steps away from the main building. Surrounded by a river terrace forest, here, you can relax as you gaze at a giant old maple tree that is over 500 years old. The sauna was designed with a focus on both thermal insulation and heat storage. The walls are covered in Towada stone, which is highly effective at storing heat and emits far-infrared rays. Please note that the relaxation space in the outdoor sauna is not completely shut off from the surrounding area, so you are advised to wear a swimsuit. If you do not plan to use the outdoor sauna, we will deduct 5,000 yen per day per building from your total accommodation fee. (This offer is only available through our website.) Please remove this option when you make your reservation.

* Swimsuits are not provided, so please bring your own. Ponchos are provided.

  • Capacity six-person
  • Temperature 100℃
  • Löyly Self-löyly
  • Cold water bath Approx. 16℃ (Reduce the water volume in winter to enjoy a solo bath)

Bathroom

Bathroom

The bathtub is made from Japanese cypress. Please note that the indoor bath at Sen is not a hot spring. If you would like to go to a hot spring, Sennen no Yu (Senju Hot Springs) is a three-minute drive. Their baths are fed with natural hot spring water direct from the source. The water appears brownish because it is a moor hot spring, which is rich in organic sediments.
