What do you think of when you think about the Uonuma region? For many Japanese people, the first thing that comes to mind is rice. Although Uonuma is well-known for the Koshihikari brand of rice, the region actually has many other attractions. Five of the nearby mountains—Tanigawa, Naeba, Echigo-Komagatake, Hiragatake, and Makihata—are included among Japan’s famous 100 mountains. It goes without saying that this region is incredibly rich in nature. Snow drifts can reach over three meters in the winter, so naturally, there are many ski resorts in the area, but this climate has also resulted in a unique culinary culture that emphasizes fermented and preserved foods. There are many restaurants in the Uonuma area where you can enjoy local gastronomy. It is the perfect place for restaurant hopping. Uonuma is also home to the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field, which plays host to the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. The annual Fuji Rock Festival is also held here.

Experience the grandeur of nature surrounded by five of Japan's most famous mountains.
