Villa

Reminiscent of Junichiro Tanizaki's essay on aesthetics In Praise of Shadows, beautiful light streaming through the large windows contrasts with the darkness typical of a traditional Japanese house, creating a harmonious blend of authentic “old Japan” and the modern age.

Villa
Introduction

When you stay here, you will undoubtedly sense that it is a power spot.

What sets Kiroku apart from other properties in Satoyama Jujo’s The House series is the aura it exudes given its location next to the grounds of a shrine. The main bedroom window affords a view of the shrine’s main hall, and a zelkova tree that is likely 700-800 years old can be seen from the garden. What’s more, the large windows facing the north and south gardens provide excellent ventilation. When you open the windows in the spring and the fall, a pleasant breeze will sweep through the house.
As with the other properties in Satoyama Jujo’s The House series, the Villa is so well insulated that, despite being an old house, you will never get cold even in the middle of winter.
For dinner, you can choose from the Satoyama Jujo Special BBQ or Satoyama Jujo’s Special Recipe Hot Pot, each of which is prepared by local women from the village. For breakfast, we will deliver the same delicious flavor of the Uonuma region that you would be served at Satoyama Jujo. You are also more than welcome to go out for dinner or make your own meal.

* The fully private main bedroom and the semi-open loft are each equipped with two beds. If necessary, two futons can be provided in the small semi-open Japanese-style room. Please let us know how many people will stay in each room when you make your reservation.

KURA 01

A storehouse that was passed down over the generations transformed into a comfortable guest room that can accommodate up to four people.

KURA 01
Introduction

A well-lit storehouse with a base color of white once used as a furnished parlor.

Although Kura 01 and Kura 02 have the same area and floor plan, each has its own distinctive atmosphere. Kura 01, which was originally used as a furnished parlor, had a Japanese-style room with an alcove on the first floor. Even after the renovation, we kept this space to serve as a small living room. The first floor also has a bathroom with a hinoki cypress tub, a four-seat dining table, and a kitchenette. The second floor features a bedroom that can accommodate up to four people and doubles as a living room. For dinner, you can order Satoyama Jujo’s Special Recipe Hot Pot, which is prepared by local women from the village. For breakfast, we will deliver the same meal that you would be served at Satoyama Jujo. Although you cannot order the BBQ or cook an elaborate meal in Kura 01, there is a kitchenette which is just right for families staying with children. You are also more than welcome to go out for dinner.

KURA 02

A storehouse for family treasures renovated into a four-person guest room with a kitchenette.

KURA 02
Introduction

Another storehouse, once used to house family treasures, renovated into a meditation room with a base color of black.

The two storehouses were once connected, and Kura 02 was used to store important family treasures. Because of its proximity to the shrine grounds, Kura 02 is characterized by its view of the main hall of Kiroku Shrine from the entrance, resulting in a more rarefied atmosphere than Kura 01. For this reason, we chose black as the base color for Kura 02 to accentuate this atmosphere. The first floor has a small living room with relaxation chairs perfect for meditation, a bathroom with a hinoki cypress tub, a four-seat dining table, and a kitchenette. The second floor features a bedroom that can accommodate up to four people and doubles as a living room. The dinner and breakfast options are the same as Kura 01. You can choose to have meals delivered or go out to eat.
