Just under two hours from Tokyo on the Shinkansen and just over two hours by car, the Minamiuonuma area of Niigata is closer than you think. The great outdoors await you, and with less traffic congestion, it is quicker to get here than to Izu or Hakone.

Although the mailing address is Iemoriyama, the name of the village is Senjoji. This is where we took the name of our house from, since sen can also be read as izumi, which means spring. If you are coming by car, turn left at the road sign for Senjoji on Prefectural Route 451. Please note that if you follow the GPS, it will take you through an extremely narrow underpass under the Joetsu Line.

From Echigo-Yuzawa Station
There is a fixed-rate taxi service from JR Echigo-Yuzawa Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen Line. The fee is ¥5,600 in the summer and ¥6,500 in the winter. Please ask Satoyama Jujo to reserve a taxi for you. Pay the fare directly to the driver. We can also book your taxi back to the station if you let us know your departure time at least one day in advance. The ride takes about 25 minutes.
From Osawa Station
Before check-in and after check-out, we offer free pick-up and drop-off service to/from Osawa Station on the Joetsu Line (reservations are required). Please let us know your arrival time at least one day in advance. During heavy snowstorms in winter, service on the Joetsu Line may be suspended. (The Joetsu Shinkansen Line is able to run no matter how bad the weather is.) In this case, the only way to travel between Echigo-Yuzawa Station and Satoyama Jujo is by taxi.

Rental car service
We offer a rental car service for our guests. The model is a new Suzuki Jimny, a light motor vehicle. This is the best sized car for enjoying the terraced rice paddies, and it can easily manage farm roads as well. The rental car is also a convenient and economical way to visit restaurants if you choose to dine outside of Satoyama Jujo. There is only one rental car available for both Satoyama Jujo and The House. If you wish to rent the car, please make a reservation as early as possible. You must have a valid driver's license that permits you to drive in Japan.
