Spa & Sauna

At Izumi, the hot spring contains different minerals than the one at Satoyama Jujo. It is also equipped with a sauna and cold well-fed water bath. At Izumi, we have installed an open-air bath and sauna where you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the surrounding 2,000-meter mountains.

Introduction

An open-air bath with an amazing view of Mt. Makihata, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains.

The slightly salty hot spring water has a different mineral makeup than the water at Satoyama Jujo, and towering in front of you is Mt. Makihata, one of Japan’s famous 100 mountains. To the left stand Mt. Hakkai and Mt. Nakanodake, and Mt. Asahidake is on the right. If you turn 90-degrees from there, you can also see Mt. Tanigawa and Mt. Naeba. Your entire field of vision is filled with majestic mountain views. At night, when the weather is clear, you can enjoy gazing at the star-filled sky. The mountains are also visible from the indoor bath. Relax in these two different hot springs and let the day’s fatigue melt away.

Sauna

Izumi is also home to a private sauna with a breathtaking panoramic view.

To ensure that our guests can leisurely enjoy the view of the mountains while they warm up, we keep the temperature of the sauna at a lower setting as they do in Finland, the home of saunas (although it is still higher than a typical Finnish sauna). We have set the ceiling temperature controller to 100℃, so that when you are seated, the temperature near your head stays around 85℃ and the temperature of the seat stays around 75℃. If you would like to relax a little bit longer in the sauna as they do in Finland, set the controller to 90℃ to bring the temperature near your head to around 75℃. Conversely, if you set the controller to 110℃, the temperature near your head will range between 95℃ and 100℃, which is closer to a typical Japanese sauna. Naturally, you can regulate the temperature by splashing water on the hot stones (self-löyly style), and you can choose your preferred scent by adding one of the aroma oils provided. We recommend setting the temperature lower and enjoying löyly to the fullest. The cold water bath, which ranges between 14 and 15℃, is continuously fed with well water.

* If you do not plan to use the sauna, we will deduct 5,000 yen per day per building from your total accommodation fee. (This offer is only available through our website.) Please remove this option when you make your reservation.

Panoramic sauna

Although the sauna at Izumi is slightly smaller than the one at Sen, it can still comfortably seat four people. The cold water bath, which is continuously fed with well water, features a deep tub made from Shigaraki stoneware pottery. Please note that during the period between the snow thaw and when the trees get their new leaves (typically late March to late April), the site can be seen more easily from the surrounding area. If you are worried about being seen, please bring your own bathing suit.

* Bathing suits are not provided. Feel free to use one of the provided ponchos.

Guests at The House are also welcome to use the Amanogawa open-air bath at Satoyama Jujo. Although we do not offer a pick-up service for bathing, we do so if you choose to have dinner at Satoyama Jujo. If you plan to dine at Satoyama Jujo, we recommend taking a bath at Amanogawa before dinner so you can enjoy both types of hot spring. Satoyama Jujo is a 10-minute drive from The House Izumi.
