Art & Design
The texture of an old Japanese home.
The warmth of modern insulation.
Design that invites you to settle in.
A new chapter
for a traditional village house.
Shushi architects preserved the texture of Atema’s old timber and earthen walls while creating a calm, contemporary interior. External insulation helps retain warmth through the snowy winter, keeping the character of the rooms visible and the house comfortable to return to.
Doors, fittings and furniture reuse materials recovered during the restoration of Atema and Ueda. This careful approach connects the house’s past with the daily pleasures of a stay: sitting by a window, gathering for dinner and finding a quiet corner of your own.

with a close connection to the landscape
and the culture of the village.
